A Plus 4 DAY (24 OCTOBER)
* SEARCH AND ATTACK (0600-1200)
14 VF, 12 VB - enemy force consisting of the FUSO, YAMASHIRO, 1 MOGAMI class heavy cruiser and 4 destroyers (non well-deck type) sighted and attacked - all units heavily strafed and hit with rockets; at least 5 bomb hits made on the FUSO (large fires started) and 1/2 hits on the YAMASHIRO plus many near misses - 1 VF plane shot down by AA, pilot Cmdr. F. E. BAKUTIS, USN (VF-20) last seen in rubber boat - 5.5 tons of bombs dropped - 56 rockets fired.
* STRIKE "A" (1310-1715)
16 VF, 9 VB, 8 VT - the MUSASHI, a YAMATO class BB (identified from photographs), heavily bombed and hit with torpedoes, a large fire started and ship left down by bow - 1 DD hit by rockets with terrific explosion resulting and believed sunk - 1 cruiser and 1 DD hit by rockets and damaged - 9 tons of bombs dropped - 8 torpedoes dropped - 64 rockets fired.
